Dependents (added at 30%+)
Veterans rated 30% or higher receive additional amounts for each dependent. The structure is granular — separate add amounts for spouse, each child under 18, each schoolchild 18–23, each dependent parent, and a spouse receiving Aid & Attendance. These also adjust annually with COLA.
Always confirm exact current amounts at the official VA rate table before relying on a specific number.
SMC-K — Loss of Use of a Creative Organ
$139.87 per month as of December 1, 2025, added on top of basic compensation at any rating level from 0% to 100%. Most commonly triggered by ED (see ED secondary to mental health) but also by mastectomy, loss of a kidney, and certain reproductive injuries. SMC-K is the bottom of a ladder that goes up to over $11,000/month at the top end — see SMC ladder.
