VR&E / Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation)
Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E), formerly Vocational Rehabilitation, helps veterans with service-connected disabilities prepare for, find, and maintain suitable employment. Different from the GI Bill — designed specifically for veterans whose disabilities affect career options.
- Eligibility: 10% or higher rating (with employment handicap), or 20%+ rating, and discharge other than dishonorable
- Benefits: training (academic, on-the-job, apprenticeship), education, employment services, supportive services, possible self-employment assistance
- Monthly housing allowance during training (different rate than GI Bill)
- Apply via VA Form 28-1900 or online
